10, 11 -- Double your bet if dealer has a 2 through 9; otherwise, hit.

(b) Card counting is a technique used in blackjack where the player keeps track of the cards played in order to guess what cards are still available for play and the likelihood that the other players have these online casino cards. I'm an east coaster in New Jersey and I love my Atlantic City a few times a year. I am not a gamble-holic, if you will, but I do enjoy the table games when I go down, especially blackjack. There are hundreds of thousands of books out there that go over strategies and card counting techniques that can be cumbersome especially to the more novice player that just wants to enjoy his or her time in the casino. I have put together, in this article, some of the simpler strategies so that you can give yourself the best chance at being successful at the table. Like I said, I am not a millionaire nor claim to be one, just an average guy who knows when to walk away from the table and is happy with a couple hundred dollar win here and there. Here are some of my basic strategies that will give you better odds of success.

Step 1: Picking the Right Table to Sit At

I can't emphasize how important this is. I always look at the minimum bet first. I will not go to any table that has more than a $15 minimum bet. I prefer a $10 minimum bet. My favorite casino is Bally's Wild Wild West. You can find some $10 dollar tables there throughout the day.

Also, make sure it is either blackjack or blackjack with Lucky Ladies and there is more than one deck in play. The Lucky Ladies table has an extra bet that you can make that you get odds on certain hands that you get and the dealer gets. I rarely play that, I suggest you don't make that extra bet; but even without that it is still like playing at a regular blackjack table.

Now there is one more thing that you will want to do before you sit down. Look at the dealer and the other players on the table and look at the dealer. Watch a hand or two. I want to make sure that the people at the table seem to have a grasp at what they are doing. I can't tell you how many times you will find the drunk person on the table taking a hit when he or she shouldn't or the clueless person splitting 10s and so on. Those people could really kill you and the rest of the table. I also want to make sure the dealer seems to be in good spirits. I am all into the karma part of the equation and a dealer with an attitude just gives off a bad vibe for me.

Step 2: Get a Feel for the Dealer

O.K. Now you have found your table and you are ready to sit down. Here's what I want you to do. Play 10 straight hands with the minimum bet. Get a feel for how lucky the dealer is. If you win 5 or more hands, stay on and we can move to the next step of my advice. If you lose more than you win during that 10 hand sequence, bail out and follow step 1 again.

Step 3: Giving Yourself the Best Chance to Win Some Money

As I said earlier, I am not going to make you a million dollars. Nobody is, unless you are a high roller and can find a table with a $100,000 maximum, which you won't, you are not going to even come close. I will assume everyone who is reading this at least knows the basic fundamentals of blackjack and the basics of when you should hit and stay (example: dealer is showing a 10 and you a 15, you hit; dealer showing a 10 and you an 18 you stay...stuff like that). Assuming that is true, let me make a quick point: YOU WILL NOT WIN EVERY HAND! Nobody does. The key to winning money is putting yourself in the best position to give yourself the best odds of winning on a particular hand. If you can know when to bet more and win, and bet the minimum when you lose, you can come out very much ahead.

Now I don't count cards, per se, I like to relax and have fun, not feel like I am in Calculus class again. What I do is simple. I just observe the cards. Its pretty obvious to see since the high cars are pictured (except the 10 and the Ace) and the low cards aren't how the deck is playing out. Never bet any more than the minimum when the shoe starts. Get a few deal feel of how the shoe is behaving before you start to go wild. If you have seen a lot of picture cards the first few deals, then stay with the minimum; a win is a win no matter what. If the first few deals (lets say 4 or 5) sees minimal picture card turns, then start to up your bet until the picture cards seem to come out more. The reason for this is that there is a better chance of you getting a desirable hand when the odds are in your favor (18, 19, 20, and even blackjack).

Its as simple as that for me. Don't ride hot streaks..If you have won 3 in a row while betting higher than the minimum, tone it down for a hand or two..You will be happy you did. Here are a couple of notes I will throw in for good measure....just some notes that others will appreciate your wisdom at the table:

- Never split 8's unless the dealer is showing a 7 or lower. If the dealer has an 8 or higher, then I am basically risking double my bet to get 2 18s. A hefty price to pay. I would rather take my chances on the 16 hit; if I bust, then so be it...but I didn't bet twice

- If the dealer is showing less than a 7, always double on soft 15, 16, 17.....the reason for this is pretty straight forward: an Ace (16 and 17), 2,3,4,5 (15 and 16), and 6 (15) will give you a desirable result.

- Never double when showing an 11 and the dealer shows 10...I just can't take that chance..I rarely do it when the dealer is showing a 9 or 8 either, but to each his or her own on that one.

- 16: OK I always hit on 16 when the dealer is showing a 7 or better. Some people don't. What I will say is stay consistent. Either you hit all the time...or you stay all the time. Don't start changing up your strategy.. The table will thank you for that.

Divide the guests into two teams with one or two guests to act as judges as moderators. Each team selects a leader (usually the one with the biggest booming voice). The leader pulls a task for his team out of hat that holds many. The tasks for each team will be bizarre and unpredictable. For example, a task may be to line up with the biggest big toed person on the left and the smallest big toed person on the right. When they are ready to start the moderator yells Git'er Done. You have probably heard of Roulette Sniper, it has been around for a while and it is one of the programs I bought in one of my many gullible and desperate times. The software is designed to be used in online casinos. The roulette sniper software does not work. Online casinos use software that gives them a huge advantage and there is no way to gain an edge.

So now there is Blackjack Sniper. This software is from the same guy and has apparently been in development for the past 2 years. The software sells for $39.95 (usually $149.99 yeah right!), but someone sent me an "invitation" to buy it for $21. I decided to give it a try, knowing I could request a refund when it didn't work.

I hate to crush your hopes, but Blackjack Sniper is basically just like a blackjack calculator that you can download for free from a number of places. Unless you have never played blackjack before, it will be of no use to you.

The sales page says that the software works using perfect blackjack strategy, combined with card counting and various other techniques. All you have to do is select options and how much you want to bet and enter the cards you are dealt and it will tell you what to do. You can choose to bet progressively or not and it will adjust your wager accordingly.

I used the software in practice play, as I do not intend losing money in an online casino. Whilst progressive betting with a basic $2 wager, the software adviced me to bet over $200 at once to make just $2 profit. Thank God I was in practice mode as I lost that bet. Without progressive betting it still had me betting huge amounts when the adjust wager button was checked. When I kept the wager the same (no automatic adjustment) I still lost over $100. I tried it at 3 different casinos and the results were always the same. Even when I won and got ahead I soon lost it all. Here is why it does not work:

Online casinos select random cards from the pack as if the pack were constantly being shuffled. Therefore, card counting can never work online. It is useless to try and use it.

This software does use perfect blackjack strategy most of the time, but this can be learnt very quickly for free online, by looking at strategy cards or downloading a free blackjack calculator.

Progressive betting is an option that will never work for long. Online casinos work against you, so it would be very hard to come out a winner.

The sales videos show the guy winning easily, but think how many videos he made before getting this one. It does not work like he says it does.

Using casino bonus money is not as easy as it seems. Many casinos will not let you cash out your bonus until after you have wagered it a certain number of times and blackjack and roulette often do not count towards the wager, so you have to play, even more risky games like slots.

The reason people will hype this up is because it is an affiliate program. The promoters will make money if you buy the product.

Hopefully this review has cleared a few things up. Blackjack is a fun game to play in a land based casino and can be beaten by using card counting if they do not use an automatic shuffler, but you cannot keep beating the online casinos. Please do not waste your money on Blackjack or Roulette Sniper. I'm off to request my refund.

If you're new to blackjack strategy, here are a few tips for how to minimize the house edge:

When you're not sure about the correct play, assume that the dealer has a ten as her hole card, and also assume that you're going to be dealt a ten. The deck has more tens in it than any other card, so this is a decent assumption about what's going to happen next, and the basic strategy decisions become pretty obvious.

Always split aces and eights. If you've got aces, you get twice as many chances at a blackjack by splitting. And you'll often draw a ten when you hit. 10+8=18, which is a mighty respectable blackjack hand any time.

Never split fours, fives, or tens. A pair of fours is a hard total of eight, which means you're next card, if it's a ten, will be an eighteen, which is a mighty good hand. A pair of fives is a total of ten, so doubling down is a good idea here, since you're hoping to catch an ace for a 21 or a ten for a total of 20. All black jack games work with different features. These include things that relate to the cards that are used and the table rules. Some special types of bets can work in some games.

First it helps to see how many decks of cards are used. A typical casino table will work with multiple decks of cards. This is to make it harder for players to try and guess what cards are going to be used next. Many casinos will use six decks of cards but some can work with four or eight decks. There are rarely any games that use just one deck of cards.

I've spoken about Martingale before as a brief overview, but now I'm going to go over exactly how it is applied to blackjack and what steps need to be taken to ensure that it is used properly. It is much easier to apply Martingale to blackjack than it is to roulette, basically in blackjack you only have one set of odds, meaning you will always raise in the same manner; in roulette different sets of odds mean that depending on where you bet, your raise upon losing will be different.

In blackjack, ensure that you are initially betting the lowest amount the table allows. If the minimum wage at the table you happen to be playing at is $5, then ensure you are always starting with a bet of $5. Also, you should always try to have at least 100 times the minimum bet in your bankroll to cover a few losses. This means that again if the minimum bet at that table is $5, you should have at least $500 in reserve. If the minimum is $1, you will only need to have $100 in reserve.

Begin betting with the minimum amount and if you win a hand, simply re-bet with the minimum again. Continue to bet in this fashion until you lose a hand.

When you do eventually lose (which you will), simply double your bet on the next hand. If the starting bet is $5 and you lose, the next hand you would bet $10. If you win, simply take your winnings and bet again the next hand with the minimum. If you lose again, you will need to double your bet again, this time to $20.

By doing this, every time you win you are covering your losses from all previous rounds as well as making a profit. Martingale is an excellent betting strategy, however is only good in the long run. It should only be used sparingly as if used for a long period of time, you will lose quite a lot more than you won and here's why;

By continually doubling your bet, you will eventually come be halted at the table's betting limit. For example, most tables which have a minimum betting limit of $5, also have a maximum betting limit of $500. Because of this, you can only double your bet six times before the next bet would be over $500. And let me tell you, six consecutive losses is very plausible.

How to Play Black Jack

The object of Black Jack, is to have your cards total twenty-one or as near to twenty-one as possible without going over. Everyone plays against the dealer (casino) who begins the game by dealing each player two cards and the house one card face up and one card face down.

The rules of Black Jack are simple. Cards are counted at their face value. Kings, Queens, and Jacks count as ten. Aces count as one or eleven. If the first two cards you are dealt total twenty-one, you have a Blackjack. Blackjack pays one and a half times your bet. You cannot lose but you could tie if the dealer also has a Blackjack.
If you are dealt any combination other than Blackjack, you can either "stand" (don't take no more cards) or signal the dealer for a "hit" (Take another card). The objective is to reach twenty-one or as close to twenty-one as possible without going over. You also want your hand to be closer to twenty-one than the dealer's hand. If your card count is closer to twenty-one than the dealer's hand, you win if it is less, the house wins. If you tie with the dealer, you "push" (meaning no one wins, and nobody loses).

If go over twenty-one ("bust"), you automatically lose. Once each player takes their turn, the dealer turns over the house card face down card. If the dealer has sixteen or less, the house must "hit" (take additional cards), until reaching seventeen or more. The dealer must stand on "soft" 17. A "soft 17" is a hand that contains at least one Ace and can be counted as either seventeen or seven. If the dealer "busts", the house must pay all the players playing in the game.

If you are dealt two cards with equal value, you have the option of "splitting" them into two separate hands. You must equal your original bet if you "split". You may "split" a pair up to three times making four separate hands. You can have as many "hits" as you like on each hand. If you "split" a pair of Aces, you will receive only one card on each of the hands, but if one of the "hit" cards is another Ace, you may "re-split" (which creates four separate hands).

While playing Black Jack players have the option of increasing their bet by "doubling down". After receiving your first two cards, you may "double down" on any first two cards. You can also "double down" after "splitting" a pair.

If the dealer's "up" card is an Ace, you can make a "insurance" wager. You can wager any amount up to half your original wager that the dealer's down card has a value of ten. If the card has a value besides ten, you lose and the dealer will take your insurance bet.

Blackjack is also known as "21" by those with a little less knowledge of the game. It's considered by some to be a simple game, but there are strategies and nuances that should not be overlooked. Don't worry about not knowing a lot about blackjack, we're going to square you away.

The first thing to know is how the game is played. Blackjack play begins with the bet. Place a bet based on the minimum/maximum bet rules; this allows you to play, and tells the dealer it is time to deal you a winner! Typically, you will be dealt two cards face up when playing in a casino. The dealer will deal themselves one card face down and one face up. Order of play begins with the person sitting to the left of the dealer and will move clockwise from there.

The objective it to get as close to 21 as you feel you can and closer to 21 than the dealer without going over. Going over 21 is called "busting" or "busted." Face cards are worth 10 points while the numbered cards are worth their face value. The ace is the special card though, it is worth either 11 or 1 depends on what you would like for it to be. Obviously if you have a face card and an ace, this is 21 and not 11. If you have a face card, a six and an ace this would be 17. 10+6+1= 17. Not the strongest hand in the world, but it could be stronger than the dealer's. We'll get to that part.

Look at the table rules now. They should be printed somewhere on the table. You will note that the house rules say that the dealer must take a hit on 16, or may not hit on 17 and above. This is the only real advantage you will have in the game. For instance if the dealer has a 6 showing, you have to assume that there is a face card face down and the deal has 16 already. There is a better chance of them busting then. While if the dealer has a 3 showing it is wide open. Generally speaking, most players have the best success by thinking of there being a sweet spot between 17 and 21. This mindset states that you have to get to 17 and try to land between 17 and 21, as close to 21 as you can. But again, this is all luck.

Pairs will sometimes be dealt to you; this is a good thing, most of the time. When a pair is dealt to the player they have the option to "split" that is play two hands. In order to do this just say "split" and place a bet that is the same amount as your original bet. You now have two hands to play. You may only do this if the pair is dealt in the first two cards. On either hand, if you split and the replacement cards are the same, you may split again and play three hands. For example, if you split two 3's and are dealt a 3, you may split again and play a third hand.

Hand signals will make you look very cool. Personally I tap the table, just below the cards, twice, when I want a hit. When I'm done hitting, I wave my hand across the top of the cards and shake my head, usually making a cool, Clint Eastwood face. When I bust, I throw both hands into the air to signify it was bad luck, but I know the game. Of the three hand signals I use, the last one is not my favorite. You can just say "hit" and "stay" though.

Insurance is the last basic you should need to know. This one confuses people a little and there is a good reason for it. Insurance will cost you half of your bet. Insurance is a side bet. If the dealer has an ace showing you have the opportunity to make a side bet as to whether they have 21. The bet can be up to half you original bet. According to Richard Epstein (Theory of Gambling and Statistical Logic, Academic Press, 1977), blackjack became popular during World War I, and was called "black-jack" from the practice of paying a bonus to a player who held an ace of spades with a jack of spades or clubs.

John Scarne, (New Complete Guide to Gambling, 1961, Simon & Schuster), puts the year when this curious rule first appeared at 1912, when twenty-one tables appeared in horse-betting parlors in Evanston, Illinois. According to Scarne, by 1919a Chicago gambling equipment distributor was selling felt table layouts embla¬zoned with the announcement: "Blackjack Pays Odds of 3 to 2." I believe Epstein's information is taken from Scarne, and Scarne states that he discovered the origins of blackjack in America as a result of his private discussions with old-time gamblers, not from any published texts that can be looked up today.

I am skeptical of much of what Scarne has written about blackjack, so I'll quote from Mickey MacDougall's MacDougall on Dice and Cards (Coward-McCann, 1944, NY), which was published prior to any of Scarne's books: "Many professionals dress up the game by giving prizes for certain hands. A favorite stunt is to offer ten times the size of the wager to anyone holding a natural twenty-one with a black jack. This adds interest to the game, but it also tempts a player to increase his stakes."

In an honestly dealt single-deck game, this gimmick bonus would give the player a substantial edge over the house, assuming the player knew basic strategy (an unlikely assumption). I would also assume that a gambling house that offered this bonus would be using any number of illegitimate methods to assure the house a healthy edge.

That curious bonus payout that gave blackjack its name, however, has long since disappeared. There may be some casino somewhere that pays a small bonus if a player is dealt a natural 21 which includes a jack of spades or clubs, but that is no longer a normal rule of the game. Today, a blackjack is simply any initial two cards that consist of an ace and any ten-valued card.

That's when Ed Thorp dropped another bombshell. Under the auspices of their Vintage Paperback division, Random House published a revised and expanded edition of Beat the Dealer. And the most important addition was Harvey Dubner's Hi-Lo counting system, which Thorp called the Complete Point Count, with a computer-optimized strategy devised by Julian Braun. To the casinos' frustration, this was a system that could more easily be applied to multiple-deck games.

Thorp was keeping the casinos on the run.

Still, the casinos' fears were mostly unfounded. The Complete Point Count was easier to use than the ten-count, but it was not a lot easier. It required players to keep two separate counts. In addition to the running count of the cards' point total, the player had to keep a count of the exact number of cards remaining to be played. And in order to play his hand, he had to memorize a chart of 158 different strategy changes to be made according to the count.

Thorp also included a Simple Point Count in this new edition of his book, but at the time that strategy seemed way too simple to most players to gain much of an edge, or to be taken seriously by players who wanted to beat the game. Later, the power of Thorp's simpler method of adjusting the running count, without keeping a separate count of the exact number of cards played, would be shown.

In this article, I'm going to teach you a simple betting strategy for blackjack that should keep you from losing your shirt and maybe even have you going home with a nice little profit in your pocket. Or, you can just go on trying for that big score. It's up to you.

First off, before I even get into betting strategy, do NOT go to the casinos to play blackjack unless you know your basic strategy like the back of your hand. Otherwise, you are looking to get taken...plain and simple. I won't harp on the issue. Take it for what it's worth to you.

Okay, here's my simple betting system and the explanation of why it works as well as it does. Blackjack, when played with perfect basic strategy, only gives a slight advantage to the house. It isn't quite an even game of chance but it's close enough to it for our purposes.

Having said that, given two hands of blackjack, on an average, you will win one and lose one, or play the house relatively even. Over the long haul, you will lose because the house does have a slight advantage. That's how they stay in business. So the key to beating them in the short term (you'll never beat them long term) is to manage your bets in such a way that you CAN play the house even or even slightly worse than even and still come out ahead. How do you do this?

Let's say we're playing at a $10 minimum table. What you do is start out betting double the minimum. You'll see why shortly. So you're betting $20. If you win that bet, on your next bet you drop down to the $10 minimum. The reason is simple. According to the law of averages, you can't expect to win two hands in a row. You might, but you can't expect it. Therefore, by dropping down to $10 on the next bet, should you lose, take a look at what has just happened.

You won the first hand, lost the second hand, played the house even and YET, you walk away with a $10 profit. It's basic math. If you do lose that second hand, you go right back to betting $20 and starting the progression all over again.

But what if you actually win the second hand? Then what? In that case, you will make your next bet $15.

Why $15?

The short explanation is that you don't want to play the house three hands, win two of them and only have $10 to show for it. By betting $15, you will show a $15 profit for 2 wins, or $7.50 per win.

The complete regression betting system, as it is called, goes like this...

$20, $10, $15, $20, $25, $30, $35, etc.

You continue the betting pattern until you lose. Once you lose, you start all over again at $20.

If you lose 3 straight hands (I call it 3 strikes and you're out) you walk away from the table.

This is the hardest thing for any gambler to do, but it is a MUST or you're looking to get whacked at the tables. Losing streaks will occur.

Get used to them.

Aside from the above simple system, make sure that when you go to any table, you have at least 20 times the table minimum in your bankroll. So if you're playing at a $10 table, bring $200 with you.

Do I have losing days? Yes. But in 25 years of gambling, I win more than I lose.

If a player has two like cards, they can split. In some cases, table rules require that the dealer take another card when they have a soft 17, that's an ace and a six. If you bust, everyone left with a bet wins. If you get 17 through 21, you pay those with a higher amount showing and take the wager of the hands that are lower. The Rules of Blackjack

Blackjack is a very simple card game to play. The goal of the game is to come as close to a card value of twenty-one without going over. Going over is called a "bust". Face cards have a value of 10 and each of the number cards retains their face value. Aces can have the value of 11 or 1, depending on whether the hand is over twenty-one or not.

There are two kinds of blackjack games played in casinos, which can use up to eight decks. One is the single or two-deck game where the dealer holds the cards and deals them out face down to each player. In multi-deck games, a card shoe is employed which uses up to eight decks and shuffles the cards after each game. The cards are dealt out face up in front of the player and each player is not allowed to pick them up. A hand in either type is also dealt to the dealer, only one of which is face up in the initial deal, the face down card is called the hole, and the object of the game is to beat the dealer's hand. In some Blackjack games, the hole is not drawn until all the players have played their hands.

No matter how many players are on the table, the hand to beat is the house or dealer hand. A player always goes first when deciding either to get hit (get more cards) or to stand (stay with the present hand) at each turn, and the dealer will draw more cards until someone comes up with a twenty-one (blackjack) or goes bust. All players who go bust automatically lose, whether the dealer goes bust or not. The dealer must draw if his cards are on 17 with an ace in the hand (called a "soft" hand because the Ace could have a value of 1 or 11) or 16 or less, and must stand at a hard (meaning no aces) 17 or more. If the dealer goes bust, all players who have not will win.

In casinos, the blackjack table is typically a half-moon shaped table with up to seven players possible for each game. Each player faces the dealer who is on the inside part of the arc. At each player's place, the table is marked with circles where bets can be placed and the payout is usually even money, except for insurance bets. At one side of the table, a card is placed which may declare the house rules on blackjack, such as minimum and maximum wagers, splitting pairs and double down.

Splitting pairs gives Blackjack players the option to split a pair of identical value cards i.e. 2 sevens into two separate hands and a second bet to cover additional hand. The player who splits plays the original game until he wins or goes bust, in which case he can start playing the second hand. Some houses allow up to four splits and four bets in one round for each player.

A double down is when a player has the option to double the original bet prior to the deal and receives one more card. In a face down game, the cards must be revealed at this point. Some houses allow players to double down regardless of total hand value, while others restrict it to a hand value of 10 or 11.

Another Blackjack bet that may be allowed is insurance, in which a player bets the odds that a dealer's hand, in which the face up is an Ace, has a 10-value card in the facedown card. The bet may be up to 50% of the original bet. The bet is placed on the insurance block of the table and must be placed after the initial hand is dealt and pays 2 to 1 if the player wins. Most dealers will advise places to take out insurance if the player already has a blackjack by calling out "Even money" because in case the dealer has a blackjack as well, the pay out would be the same as when the dealer has no blackjack. However, taking insurance in this case is not advisable because the probabilities of a 10-value card being in the face down card is only 30.8% as opposed to a 33.8% if the player hand has no 10-value card.

In all games, the Blackjack player is allowed the choice to ask for one or more cards depending on the value of the initial hand. This is called a hit. Blackjack players are not allowed to verbally call for a hit, but must merely wave towards himself or tap the table with the cards or his hand. The player can also elect to keep to the original cards and hope it beats the dealer's hand. This is called a stand. The Blackjack player indicates a wish to stand by placing his hand flat on his cards in a face up game or sliding the cards under the bet in a hand held game.

Combination of cards

The best total is a two-card hand twenty-one, meaning an Ace and any face card, still called a blackjack or a natural regardless of suit. The pay out for a blackjack hand that wins is 3 to 2 instead of the usual even money, meaning the player wins 50% more than the original bet. If the dealer also holds a two-hand 21, this is a tie and the player just gets his money back. If the dealer's hand is made up of three or more cards to make 21, the two-card hand still wins. All other card combinations that is less than or equal to 21 will win even money if the dealer goes bust or has a lower card value. The suit of the cards has no bearing to the value of the hand. In a multi-deck game, up to seven cards can make up a hand (e.g. seven aces add up to a soft 17)

Variations to blackjack

Some games of blackjack allow different combinations of options that may or may not benefit the player. Double downs after splitting reduces the house edge by 0.13%. Not so dramatic is allowing resplitting of aces, which cuts the house advantage down by .03%, although if the house allows yet another resplitting, the house advantage goes down by 0.14%. Early surrender allows players to half their bet before the dealer reveals the hole, and this reduces the house advantage by 0.624%. Late surrender allows players to half their bet after the dealer reveals the hole, and the house advantage loses .07% and .02% in a multi-deck and single deck game respectively.

House rules that work against the Blackjack player includes limiting the double down options of a player to a 10 or 11 hand, which increases the house advantage by 0.28%. Blackjack pay outs of 6 to 5 i.e. the player only wins $6 with a $5 bet increase the house advantage by 1.4%.

Strategies in Blackjack

The basic strategy in winning in Blackjack is making calculated guesses on the probable outcomes of the cards by considering the player's hand and the card revealed by the dealer. This is the most reliable of strategies and most consistently favors the player. Because face cards comprise a significant percentage of the deck, the probabilities of it turning up in the hole is high. The simplest rule in Blackjack is that if the face up card of the dealer is 7or higher, the player must consider it likely the hole is a 10-value card, and must hit if the player hand is 16 or less. If, however, the dealer's face up card is 6, and the player hand is 16, it would be best to stand.

In deciding to hit or stand, the Blackjack player has to consider whether the hands involved are soft or hand, meaning if aces are present. In a purely hard hand, certain generalizations may be followed:

• If the player hand totals 9 and the dealer reveals 2 or 7 and above, the player should hit. If the dealer hand is 3, 4, 5 or 6, the player should double down

• If the player had totals 10 and the dealer reveals a 2 up to 9, the player should double down. With a dealer hand of 10 or Ace, the player should hit.

• If the player hand is 11, and the dealer face up card is 2 through 10, the player should double down. A player should hit if an ace is the dealer card.

• If the player hand total 12, and the dealer has a 2, 3 or 7 and higher the player should hit. However, if the dealer shows a 4, 5 or 6, the player should stand.

• A player hand with a total of 13 through 16 should stand if the dealer shows a 2 up to 6, but should hit if the card is 7 and above.

• With a player hand of 17 to 21, stand at all times regardless of the dealer card.

It does however take a bit of practice to be able to do it at game speed. How Card Counting Works:Cards with a face value of 7,8, or 9 count as zero or not at all. Every card between 2 and 6 count as plus 1. all cards 10 through Ace count as minus one. So if the count is high this means that the remainder of the multiple decks are currently stacked with high face value cards. Anybody can see how this would give advantage to the card counter. How To Apply This Skill:You want to bet only the table minimum each hand until the count starts to lean in your favor. By in your favor I mean at least plus 5.

There are a very limited number of games in Vegas that offer this rule, but they're locatable. Often this particular rule is not posted at tables so ask when you approach for play.

I don't play 6D blackjack games in Las Vegas unless it offers all the above rules unless there is a specific set of other rules or promotions that drives the house edge down. Obviously, the above games are few and far between and you may consider this an anal approach...I just adhere to this axiom ( you don't have to ). I agree that blackjack should be an enjoyable, "fun" experience; it's simply neither of those for me if the house advantage off the top is insurmountable over time. I have found the above 6D rules / games with some consistency at the following Vegas casinos ( keep in mind that you may have to play $15 - $25 dollar minimums to collectively locate the above rules at a given table; additionally some of the properties may require these minimum bet levels for players to even get rated for table game comps, which can potentially add significant real dollar value to player expectation / EV) :

- MANDALAY BAY (Strip)
